Them, there hills is full of gold! A remote, rugged but wildly beautiful place. The orange glow of an early summer sunrise is reflected in the mirror-like waters of Loch Arkaig with the mountains of Knoydart, Lochaber, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
Them, there hills is full of gold! A remote, rugged but wildly beautiful place. The orange glow of an early summer sunrise is reflected in the mirror-like waters of Loch Arkaig with the mountains of Knoydart, Lochaber, Inverness-shire, Scotland.

Commentary.

Arkaig is a hugely beautiful and peaceful location.
Winding north and south for twelve miles,
here at the western end, the remote mountains of Knoydart
fringe the fjord seaboard of Hourn and Nevis.
This scene on a clear, glorious May morning,
typifies its northern shore.
Rocky water’s-edge, arrowed tree-lined peninsulas
frame the turquoise, translucent water.
Where the loch frequently appears to end, is an illusion.
Many times it twists, like a side-winder,
between the abutted, gear-wheel headlands.
What a picture can’t show is the penetrating silence,
apart from the shrill, lively whistles of a thousand native birds,
and the strangely haunting, but familiar, call of a distant cuckoo.
There are places that magically endear themselves to us.
This is one.
