The Atatürk Dam on Eufrat river - a photo on Flickriver

            Atatürk Dam - this is dam and artificial lake (Lake Atatürk) on the river Euphrates. Built in 1983, was opened in 1992. The construction cost was approximately 1.4 billion USD. Named after Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the current Turkish state.
Dam is 1819 meters long and 169 meters high. Surface formed lake has a surface area 817 km2. Hydroelectric power is the power of 2400 MW.
It is one of the largest dams in the world. Damming the waters of the Euphrates River and the construction of underground channels have allows for irrigation of agricultural crops.

Zapora Atatürka - tama i sztuczne jezioro (jezioro Atatürk) na rzece Eufrat. Budowana od 1983 roku, została oddana do użytku w 1992 roku. Koszt budowy wyniósł ok. 1.4 miliarda USD. Nazwana od imienia Mustafy Kemala Atatürka, twórcy obecnego państwa tureckiego.
Tama ma 1819 m długości oraz 169 m wysokości. Powierzchnia powstałego jeziora ma powierzchnię 817 km2. Elektrownia wodna ma moc 2400 MW.
Jest to jedna z największych zapór na świecie. Spiętrzenie wód rzeki Eufrat oraz budowa podziemnych kanałów pozwala na nawadnianie upraw
