La nidification de la Cigogne blanche est arboricole à l'origine. Elle niche non pas au cœur de la forêt mais le cas échéant en lisière, dans les bosquets, les rangées d'arbres ou même sur des arbres isolés. Le nid est placé de telle sorte qu'elle puisse accéder au nid au vol sans être gênée par une ramure dense du fait de sa grande envergure.
Mais de longue date, la cigogne s'est adaptée à l'Homme et à ses constructions, ce qui fait qu'actuellement la majorité des nids se trouvent soit sur un édifice (toit, cheminée, clocher, ruine, etc.
soit sur un support dominant du genre pylône ou poteau. Elle adopte aussi très facilement les aires artificielles mises à sa disposition.
Le nid est un nid pérenne, réoccupé et rechargé tous les ans par le couple, de telle sorte qu'il peut atteindre des dimensions et un poids très importants. C'est un facteur à prendre en compte pour éviter les accidents.

The nesting of the White Stork is originally arboreal. It nests not in the heart of the forest but where appropriate on the edge, in thickets, rows of trees or even on isolated trees. The nest is placed so that it can access the nest in flight without being hampered by dense antlers because of its large wingspan.
But for a long time, the stork has adapted to Man and his constructions, which means that currently the majority of nests are either on a building (roof, chimney, bell tower, ruin, etc.
or on a dominant support such as a pylon or post. It also very easily adopts the artificial areas made available to it.
The nest is a perennial nest, reoccupied and recharged every year by the pair, so that it can reach very large dimensions and weight. This is a factor to take into account to avoid accidents.
