Там крокусы, солдатики весны, 
Куда ни глянь - направо и налево 
Под знаменем Английской королевы 
Захватывают тишь полян лесных 
Смотри, как много - чудо-хороши 
Лиловый, жёлтый - все мундиры сразу, 
А Ньютон как-то раз весной решил 
Загадку белых, столь приятных глазу: 
Они белы не мёртвой белизной 
Больничных стен и непреложных истин - 
В них смешаны мороз и летний зной, 
Земля и небо, запахи и листья..

В качестве лечебного и профилактического средства шафран применяется для купирования судорог при эпилептической болезни. 
Водный настой на основе рыльцах шафрана используется для возбуждения половой системы. Этот же настой применяют для поддержания тонуса нервной системы, лечении стенокардии и других заболеваний сердечно-сосудистой системы. 
Кроцетин - одно из действующих веществ, уменьшает содержание холестерина в крови. 
Компрессы из шафрана используют при воспалении глаз и для замедления снижения зрения в пожилом возрасте. 
При добавлении в шафран имбиря и черного перца, целебное действие лишь усиливается. 
В очень больших дозах шафран ядовит, поэтому его применяют понемногу.
