A Last Grasp

I recently lost my wife. My old photographs are both a joy and a knife in the heart.

I have been trawling through my old dumps to see if there was anything in previous rejects that now seem fresh and worthwhile enough to do anything with.

I found this shot taken with an old iPhone 4 fitted with a narrow-angle extension lens* a friend had given me. At the time I considered the results atrocious, threw the toy fitting away, and never gave more than a glance to the image again.

However, at the time I had never done any futzing around with image manipulation software. Though it also hurts, I am now delighted by what I have been able to squeeze out of the image, even if I'm still far from expert. A gift posted through a warp in the fabric of time. Nevertheless, I am puzzled as to why this simple portrait got into Explore. Perhaps someone in Flickr happened across it, and as a gesture of sympathy, forced it into the Explore stream.

* I do wish Apple would produce a true moderate telephoto lens for the iPhone.

(My wife was standing in just about the same spot, facing the other way, when I photographed her twelve years later: "O Rose thou art sick")
