Velázquez, Diego Philip IV of Spain in Brown and Silver / Felipe IV en Marrón y plata

            The unusual splendour of the King's dress suggests that this work records a particular occasion, since he is usually depicted in more sombre clothes. He wears the badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece on a gold chain.
This work was probably painted soon after Velázquez's return from Italy in 1631. It is one of the few signed paintings by the artist and the principal portrait of the King of that period.

El insólito esplendor del vestido del Rey sugiere que se trata de un momento especial, ya que por lo general es representado con ropa más sombría. El Rey lleva la  Orden del Toisón de oro con una cadena dorada. 
Este trabajo probablemente fue pintado poco después de la vuelta del viaje italiano de Velazquez en 1631. 
Es una de las pocas pinturas firmadas por el artista y el retrato principal del Rey de aquel período.
