Hermetia illucens

            This fly, called the black soldier fly, which has spectacular eyes, is not native to Spain. It comes from tropical, subtropical and temperate regions of America, but over time it has spread and can now be found in many corners of the world, including the peninsula.

The curious thing is that, despite its intimidating appearance, it is completely harmless and very useful. Its larvae feed on organic waste, helping to reduce waste and converting it into protein that is used as animal feed. So, in addition to being photogenic, it is also environmentally friendly.
