D6990 Caerphilly Castle/Castell Caerffili

            BR Green liveried Class 37/4 D6990 'Caerphilly Castle/Castell Caerffili' passes the site of Redmarshall station at Carlton Grange Farm on 22nd February 2008 with Network Rail 6T83 Doncaster Decoy to Tyne Yard Sleeper train

Built as D6990 by English Electric, Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows, works number EE/VF3550/D979 of 1965, delivered to British Railways Cardiff Canton depot. In 1973 under TOPS she became 37290. ETH conversion came in 1985, with renumbering to 37411. 

Upon release from Crewe Works she went to Eastfield Depot for West Highland work. named 'The Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers' in 1987. After Privatization, overhaul at Crewe Works in 1997 saw her shopped in EWS livery and named Ty Hafan, then in 2001 named 'The Scottish Railway Preservation Society'.

In September 2003 the loco was pooled with 37405 and 37408 to work for Arriva and after working Knaresborough to Leeds services, started work on the second part of the diagram, 1M53 09:47 Leeds to Carlisle and 1E23 13:33 Carlisle to Leeds in October 2003. 

Arriva Trains Wales sponsored the repainting of 37411 at Toton in May 2005 emerging in full BR Green livery. Named 'Caerphilly Castle/Castell Caerffili' in November 2005. Withdrawn in 2010, she was sold to DRS, but cost cutting meant her overhaul at RVEL Derby was pulled and scrapping came at C.F Booth's of Rotherham in May 2013
