One proud looking coach. - a photo on Flickriver

            The unfortunate saga of Stoke on Trent based PMT and the Daimler Roadliner is well known in enthusiast circles. The type gained acceptance more through a friendship of the operator's Chief Engineer with Daimler hierarchy than any mechanical competence. Nevertheless, the chassis was well thought out and certainly broke the mould of the day . . . unfortunately the use of an industrial / marine V6 built by Cummins proved to be its principal undoing. It should really have been a world beater from the concept point of view.
Anyway, back in 1968, PMT were sufficiently proud of their latest coaches (three Duple Commander III bodied SRC6s) that they took the last of the trio out for publicity photos. Here PVT 102F is seen on the approach to the rural N. Staffs village of Swynnerton. The original photo is of course b&w and I've colourised it.
PMT had six Roadliner coaches, the Duples were preceeded the year before by three Plaxton Panorama 1 bodied examples. The 'buses' had short lives, but the coaches served for an even shorter period, all being withdrawn by 1972.
