Water Skink - a photo on Flickriver

Water Skink

            Small-legged Water Skink (Tropidophorus micropus) - Danum Valley, Malaysia

One of my regrets about Borneo is that I didn't do a good job photographically cataloging the skink species I saw.  There were a bunch and one thing they all had in common were that they were fast and skittish.  Many were common as well so I fell into the trap of putting it off and then never get around to it.  This is one of the species I did get a photo of, it was sitting along the edge of a stream and I took the opportunity to attempt some natural light shots.  I didn't know this at the time but now I believe this is a Small-legged Water Skink, a species endemic to central and Northern Borneo.  This is a poorly known species that likely feeds on aquatic invertebrates and is found along rocky streams in lowland forests.  Besides T. micropus this could also potentially be Brookes' water skink (Tropidophorus brookei) another water skink endemic to Borneo.
