Mayor’s House - a photo on Flickriver

Originally built on the corner of the streets Immervad and Vestergade in Aarhus in 1597. The building is one of the most important Danish half-timbered houses from the Renaissance. The house was dismantled in 1909, and re-erected as part of the National Exhibition in Aarhus as The Mayor’s House. In 1914 it was moved to its current position as the first building in Den Gamle By (English: The Old Town). In 1914, the museum opened as the world's first open-air museum of its kind, concentrating on town culture rather than village culture. The museum consists of 75 historical buildings collected from 20 townships in all parts of the country. The town itself is the main attraction but most buildings are open for visitors. The rooms are either decorated in the original historical style or organized into larger exhibits.
