Paternosterboontje (Abrus precatorius)

            paternosterboontje is bekend van de kettingen die er in de tropen van geregen worden. Toeristen brengen deze mee, waarna ze (hopelijk) in beslag genomen worden. Mocht een kind zo'n ketting in de mond steken dan blijken deze boontjes namelijk heel giftig. Ze bevatten abrine, een aan ricine verwante stof.
Ook het rijgen van de kettingen is niet zonder gevaar. Wanneer men zichzelf per ongeluk met een naald prikt waarmee men de bonen heeft geperforeerd, injecteert men zichzelf reeds met een dodelijke dosis.
