Castle of Vêves (Château de Vêves)

            The Castle of Vêves (French: Château de Vêves) occupies a rocky platform in a beautiful green area just outside the village of Celles, south east of the city of Dinant, in the province of Namur, Belgium.
Nowadays we see the castle in its 17th century appearance, in the form of an irregular pentagon and flanked by five round towers of varying size.
The first castle at this site was probably built in the early 8th century. The oldest parts of the present castle date back to the 13th century. One of these parts is the 36 meters high  maintower. It has a diameter of 8 meters and at the base its walls are 3 meters thick. 
The Castle of Vêves (also known as the Castle of Celles) has won the European Historic Houses Award. Each year, the committee rewards a particularly well-maintained historic monument. 
In 2013, the prestigious award went to the Castle of Vêves-Celles, in recognition of the work achieved since the restoration works that started in 1979, and continue to this day.

Het sprookjesachtige grotendeels 15e en 17e eeuwse Kasteel van Vêves (Château de Vêves) ligt op een met gras begroeide rotsige heuvel boven het dorpje Celles, zuidoostelijk van de stad Dinand in de provincie Namen, België. 
Het kasteel is ook bekend als Kasteel van Celles. 
Het eerste kasteel op deze plek is waarschijnlijk gebouwd in de vroege 8e eeuw. De oudste delen van het huidige kasteel dateren uit de 13e eeuw, waaronder de 36 meter hoge hoofdtoren. 
Het heeft een diameter van 8 meter en aan de basis zijn de muren 3 meter dik. Opvallend zijn de vijf puntige torens. 
Vakwerkbalkons kijken uit op een geheel omsloten binnenplaats.
Het kasteel heeft in 2013 de European Historic Houses Award gewonnen. Elk jaar beloont het comité een goed onderhouden historisch monument.
De heren van Celles, die in de 12e eeuw een burcht op deze plek bezaten, waren verwant met de familie Beaufort, en hun nazaten gebruiken het kasteel nog altijd als woning.
