            Český Krumlov (German: Krummau an der Moldau or Böhmisch Krummau, too Krumau) is a  very nice small city of almost 15 thousand inhabitants near the Czech-Austrian border in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic.  Picturesque Český Krumlov is known as „Small Prague“ and is one of the best preserved medieval towns in the world. For this reason it entered the UNESCO-register of monuments of world significance in 1992. 
One of the key attraction in the city is its Castle. This castle, more than 40 buildings, is the second largest in Czech Republic after the Hradčany Castle of Prague. This is quite unusual considering the size of the town. The State Castle of Český Krumlov, with its architectural standard, cultural tradition, and expanse, ranks among the most important historic sights in the central European region.
The gorgeous castle sits perched high above the whimsical labyrinth on a rock and the winding Vltava River (Moldau River), which was important in trade routes in Bohemia. The town Český Krumlov was created around Český Krumlov Castle, which was founded by the Lords of Krumlov (the Vítkovci family) around 1250. The architecture of the castle and the town is a mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. 
The name of the city and the castle comes from the German term "krumme aue" (crooked meadow). This evolved to Krumlov. In the 15th century, the adjective "Český" (Czech) was added to distinguish it from the Moravian city, Moravský Krumlov.

Český Krumlov (Duits: Krummau an der Moldau of (Böhmisch) Krummau, ook als Krumau geschreven) is een bijzonder mooi en schilderachtig stadje van bijna 15 duizend inwoners in de Tsjechische regio Zuid-Bohemen, 35 km van de Tsjechisch-Oostenrijkse grens. De stad ligt in een lus van de rivier Moldau. 
Český Krumlov is beroemd door de historische oude binnenstad en het enorme kasteelcomplex.
Het op rotsen gelegen kasteel is na de Praagse Burcht het grootste kasteelcomplex van Tsjechië en torent hoog boven het stadje uit. Het enorme kasteel telt meer dan 40 historische gebouwen en 5 binnenhoven. De bouw van de stad en het kasteel begonnen aan het einde van de 13e eeuw bij een fort aan de Moldau. Het grootste deel van de oude stad en het kasteel zijn gebouwd tussen de 14e en de 17e eeuw, vooral in gotische, renaissance- en Barokstijlen.
Ceský Krumlov staat bekend als "Klein Praag" en is een van de best bewaarde middeleeuwse steden in de wereld en behoort tot de belangrijkste historische bezienswaardigheden in midden Europa. 
Om de goed bewaard gebleven oude stadskern en het prachtige kasteel te beschermen zijn deze in 1992 op de Werelderfgoedlijst voor monumenten van de UNESCO geplaatst.
