Lake Manly, Death Valley - a photo on Flickriver

            After seeing that Lake Manly had reappeared this year, I put it on my bucket list to capture.  It's been about 30 years since the lake as been visible this long.  I heard that amazing reflections could be taken with the right conditions.  When I started out early in the morning from Lone Pine, things weren't looking good.  The sky was grey and overcast.  No sun was peaking through.

My morning shoot at the lake was a complete bust.  There were no cloud reflections and when it started to clear up, the wind had blown out any chance of a reflection.  I drove up to Dante's view and explored that area until sunset.  Conditions had improved as the day wore on, but the clouds decided they had enough and left.  

The good news was that the area I chose for the sunset had calm water and little wind.  The water was perfect and this was the best effort just as the sun set behind the mountains.  Then I turned to my right and my mouth dropped.  The perfect reflection that I was looking for was over there!  Of course, I moved my tripod and continued shooting.  More to come...
