Over 120 ways of using bread : recipe booklet issued by the UK Millers' Mutual Association : nd [c1935] : front cover

            A small booklet, typical of many publicity books containing recipes and or 'hints', that were handed out by various manufacturers or industry groups in the early to mid-Twentieth century. This one, that actually has 127 ways of using bread for tasty or delightful dishes, was issued by the Millers' Mutual Association and although not dated has a feel of the mid-1930s about it. 

The Association, that still exists, was created to look after the interests of UK and Irish Flour Millers and so 'selling' bread was in their interest. The front cover shows a rather coy sandwich eater - and I have seen some bold claims for bread, amidst the 127 recipes, but the back cover that makes the claim it built an empire is rather a bold assertion!
