Official Timetable ; May 1949 : issued by the Yorkshire Traction Company Limited : Barnsley, West Yorkshire : 1949 : motor omnibus services map

            The cover to the Official Timetable of the Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd., the Barnsley based bus and coach operator whose territory was squarely in the coal ming district that sat between Wakefield, Doncaster and Sheffield. The company was one of those who were 'associated' with both the British Electric Traction Co. Ltd and British Railways, belying the fact that it sprang from tramway origins as well as the move into bus services by the 'Big Four' (in this case the LNER) in c.1929/30 onwards.

The cover shows that the buses connected the industry as well as the wider and more rural hinterlands. The map shows clearly the stage services operated by "motor omnibuses" as well as the 'express services' that connected wider destinations. The map also shows the then extensive railway network and 'contact' stations of the Traction and Railway.
