Coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens). Moss, ferns and oxalis are indicative of the moist, foggy environment.

            The typical life span of this tree species is 500-700 years.   Some may be 2000 years old.

Despite the trees' great height, roots tend to be no deeper than 6-12 feet.   Remaining upright is made possible by the intermingling of their roots with other nearby trees,   There is no tap root.
