            Sheffield Stan, and his friend, Mary the Buffer Girl, are award winning entries in Britain in Bloom, and stand in front of the Town Hall. 

They celebrate Sheffield’s history as a steel town.  Stan represents a crucible worker, pouring molten steel into moulds, and Mary represents the workers who buffed, or finished, the cutlery. Sheffield is famous for cutlery.
