            Starting in 1869 in Europe High Wheeler bicycles were first seen as a novel way to get about. An expensive way to travel at the time, only the elite could afford the luxury of "riding on a wheel".
The "Forest City Bicycle Club" was organized on September 18 1882. A founding member William Payne was among Canada's first bicycle manufacturers and retailers. He began manufacturing bicycles in 1879 at 147 Dundas Street in London, Canada. He claimed his shop to be "The Oldest House in the Trade".
The "Canadian Wheelman's Association - CWA" was formed here in 1882. In 1968 the CWA changed it name to the "Canadian Cycling Association" and still operates today as Canada's oldest sport governing body.
