Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov (1 December 1896 – 18 June 1974) was a Soviet general and Marshal of the Soviet Union. He also served as Chief of the General Staff, Minister of Defence, and was a member of the Presidium of the Communist Party (later Politburo). During the Second World War, Zhukov oversaw some of the Red Army's most decisive victories.
He was the most prominent Soviet military commander of the Great Patriotic War, as World War II is known in Russia. He directed the defense of Moscow and Stalingrad and was instrumental in lifting the siege of Leningrad in 1944. 
This statue was erected in 1995 in Red Square, Moscow City. (Wikipedia)
