CHATEAU DE PIERREFONDS - a photo on Flickriver

            LE BAL DES GISANTS
Ces répliques en plâtre de personnages célèbres ont été mises en réserve au premier niveau de caves du château de Pierrefonds en 1953 par le château de Versailles. Elles sont présentées au public depuis 2009. Ces vestiges, constitués essentiellement de gisants (personnages allongés) et d'orants (personnages agenouillés), sont issus d'une collection nommée "la galerie de pierre" autrefois présentée à Versailles.
La galerie de pierre fut créée en 1833 pour le musée dédié à "toutes les gloires de la France", installée à Versailles par Louis Philippe, dernier roi des Français et réalisée d'après les plus remarquables exemples de la sculpture funéraire françaises. 96 moulages furent transférés à Pierrefonds. Les gisants et orants sont présentés à la basilique Saint-Denis et d'autres édifices religieux en France.
