Palazzo Farnese Caprarola Sala del Mappamondo by andrea quercioli

Palazzo Farnese si trova a Caprarola in provincia di Viterbo nel Lazio.
È uno dei migliori esempi di dimora di epoca Manierista. Fu costruito per la famiglia Farnese
La grande sala del Mappamondo costituisce l'ultimo ambiente del cosiddetto "appartamento dell'inverno" al Piano Nobile, disposto lungo i versanti sud e sud-occidentale del palazzo.
La bellezza della decorazione è dovuta alla intensità delle colorazioni della volta e delle pareti, ricche d’oro, di un verde smeraldo e di un azzurro zaffiro, che aumentano nel visitatore la suggestione ottica.
La sala del Mappamondo rappresenta sulle pareti il mondo allora conosciuto, ad eccezione dell'Australia, celebrava le conoscenze geografiche e astronomiche acquisite nel XVI secolo.
