“American Graffiti” (Universal Pictures, 1973), Hot rodder John Milner (played by Paul Le Mat) in his yellow Deuce Coupe.

Directed by George Lucas and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, the film is set in Modesto, California in 1962. It tells the story of a group of teenagers and their adventures over the course of a night. It focuses on the cruising and early rock’n’roll cultures popular in Lucas’ age group at the time, and the soundtrack has over 40 hit songs from the early days of rock’n’roll, disc jockeyed by Wolfman Jack. The cast is a relative who’s who of now famous actors, including Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Mackenzie Philips, Bo Hopkins and Suzanne Somers.

Paul Le Mat served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy on an SP-5B Martin seaplane in a maritime patrol squadron. The role of John Milner in “American Graffiti” was his film debut and his breakout performance earned him the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year. It landed him the lead role in the box office hit “Aloha, Bobby and Rose” (1975). He is also known for his work in the Jonathan Demme films “Handle with Care (1977) and “Melvin and Howard” (1980). He won another Golden Globe for his performance in the TV film “The Burning Bed” (1984) and starred in the cult film “Puppet Master” (1989) which spawned a franchise. [Source: Wikipedia]
