Cabbage Looper moth - freshly emerged

            This Cabbage Looper moth had recently emerged from its chrysalis and had flown a short distance to the wooden surface one of our kitchen units. We discovered the chrysalis some weeks beforehand, tucked up against a kitchen windowsill, covered with a light web of silk and surrounded by plentiful droppings, not doubt produced from a nearby basil plant that was growing in a pot on the windowsill. We had looked up typical gestation periods for this species (also identifiable from the chrysalis) and expected the moth may emerge around this weekend. I took these shots tripod mounted, using only available light, so as not to blind or spook the young moth with flash lighting and it was still enough for me to catch 5 frames at subtly different focus so I could construct a z-stack for extended depth of focus. I had processed the raw files using Capture One Pro 23 and then opened the 5 processed images in Ps6 and aligned and blended for the focus stack image posted here.
