Gannet wingman - a photo on Flickriver

Gannet wingman

            Long telephoto shot of a Northern Gannet, (Morus bassanus) on the wing as it swept alongside the cliff tops at RSPB Bempton last summer. The gannets often seem to survey the clifftops and I have wondered if they are watching all the bird watchers and wildlife photographers watching them! Such flypasts afford good opportunities for close-ups like this for a perspective suggesting being side by side in the air, as the gannets can be almost at camera level, making use of the updrafts from the sheer vertical cliffs.
