1912 TDF Odile The Beautiful...

            ODILE DEFRAEYE (1888-1965), nicknamed "Frayke" was a Belgian road racing cyclist who won three stages and the overall title of the 1912 Tour de France, which was the last tour decided by a points system instead of overall best time. He was the FIRST Belgian to win the Tour and was only invited to join Alcyon's all-French team at a late stage for publicity purposes.
In the 1913 Tour de France, Defraeye held the overall lead from stage two to five, but in the sixth stage over the Tourmalet he abandoned and left the lead to the later TDF winner Philippe Thys. For the Tour of 1914, Alcyon, under the impulse of Defraeye, tried to buy away Belgian cyclists from Peugeot. Only Marcel Buyze made the switch, Philippe Thys stayed where he was: at Peugeot. Thys will also win the Ronde that year, while Defraeye had to give up due to a furuncle aka 'seven eyes' on the buttocks during the tenth stage
Odile participated in six tours between 1909 and 1924 but his victory Tour was the only one that he completed.
Other major wins include Milan – Sanremo in 1913 and four stages and the overall classification in the 1912 Tour of Belgium.
