Allstate - a photo on Flickriver

The onetime formidable American retailer Sears-Roebuck offered a great variety of merchandise, much of them with a Sears brand name attached to things manufactured by established outside makers. For example, Sears’ household appliances were labeled as ‘Kenmore’, though they were manufactured by companies such as Whirlpool. ‘Allstate’ was another Sears brand name, used for products such as tires, auto and home insurance as well as for motorcycles.

The motorcycle above has a crankcase cover emblazoned with the ‘Allstate’ name. But Sears relied on established mortorcycle makers such as Gilera, Puch and Cushman to produce them. I believe that the one shown is a Puch, made in Austria. It was on display within an Italian food restaurant near us. I suppose that its appearance was European and perhaps close enough to appearing Italian to be part of the decor in this eating establishment!

The engine appears to be a 2-stroke, and possibly a ‘twingle’ configuration, one that utilizes two cylinders with a common combustion chamber!
