Stairs to Nowhere

            Born in France in 1878, Antoinette Bramare sang and danced on stage before coming to the United States in 1911, where she continued to dance, produced vaudeville shows, and designed stage costumes as "Madame Sherri" from the mid-teens until the 1940s.  She built her woodland chateau in 1931, where she entertained her Manhattan theater friends with lavish parties in the wilds of southwestern New Hampshire.  
 
When her star faded and the money stopped flowing, she became a ward of the town. Her "castle" was vandalized in 1959 and burned to the ground in 1962, leaving these ruins, a stairway to a second floor balcony, that now leads only to its ghostly memory.  She died in 1965 and is buried nearby.  
 
I fear that the large arch is not long for this world.  I don't think that it has many winters left to it, and there seems to be a gap forming in the middle arch, as well.
