L’isodonte mexicaine. Guêpe noire - The grass-carrying wasp

            Cette guêpe (nom scientifique :  Isodontia mexicana) appartient à la famille des Sphecidae. Elle est ici posée sur un chardon bleu ou Panicaut (nom scientifique : Eryngium), dont elle est friande. C’est une guêpe solitaire, qui s’attaque à de petits insectes, particulièrement des criquets qu’elle paralyse par une piqûre pour les transporter dans son nid.

This wasp (scientific name: Isodontia mexicana) belongs to the family of Sphecidae. It is placed here on a blue thistle or Panicaut (scientific name: Eryngium), which it is fond of. It is a solitary wasp, which attacks small insects, especially locusts, which it paralyzes with a bite to transport them to its nest.
