Whittington - a photo on Flickriver

Whittington

            St Giles church in Whittington (near Lichfield) is of medieval origin, though little remains of the ancient church except for parts of the tower. The brick nave is from the church's rebuilding in 1761, whilst the chancel is Victorian work from 1881.

Inside the church are many 18th century wall tablets, but the real treasure here is the medieval glass in the side windows of the chancel. Dating from the mid 15th century, the six beautiful glass figures are believed to have been brought from the vanished abbey of Burton on Trent following the Dissolution.

The church is generally kept open and welcoming to visitors during the day.
