Sun setting on Asbyrgi - a photo on Flickriver

Asbyrgi, N-Iceland

According to pagan religion Asbyrgi valley was made when Odins horse, Sleipnir, stepped down and made an impression into the Earth.
The story behind this shot is that I was searching on flickr for photos of this place and found almost none - that puzzled me and I decided to go there myself.
We had to walk from the camping area to the right side of the hoof impression (right as seen on the photo) and then there was a two hours walk to where this was shot. We had to wait a while (about 2 hours) for the sun to set). Afterwards we had to walk back in the dark. Thanks to Eythor Jonsson for taking this trip with me.

It was only when I got there I realised why there aren´t many photos from that place. If you want to stand on the giant wall (over 100 meters high) you have to walk for hours to get to the bottom of the hoof´s impression. And if you are not at the right time you will have to wait for hours because the valley is all covered in shaddow :)

PS the little green spot is the camping area - empty at the time - who wouldn´t want to camp there?
