Arromanches-les-Bains, Normandy (France)

            Leaving David in the restaurant to eat the remainder of his bucket of mussels, I walked down the main street then turned left towards the ocean.   A plaque states:

The seaside industry was the main driving force of the village at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries.   Holiday makers came mainly to swim and take advantage of activities on the beach and in the sea.

During the "Belle Epoque" (late 19th century to World War I), the swimming baths were one of the main attractions of the seaside village.  They opened their doors to the holiday-makers during the month of June.  The establishment offered warm seawater or freshwater baths, seaweed baths, and rental of beach equipment:  tents, deckchairs and bathing suits.

Along the boardwalk the old-fashioned boarding houses are obviously still very popular with holiday makers.
