Tropaeum Traiani Trophy - a photo on Flickriver

            Adamclisi (Romania) '23

Tropaeum Traiani is a giant war memorial erected by Trajan in honor of his victories in Dacia. It takes the form of a trophy from days of old. The current form is a reconstruction built over the site of the ruins. This includes the metopes that surround the structure, although the originals can be found in the nearby Adamclisi Archaeological Museum. The numbering of the metopes is a somewhat controversial question as several different attempts to number the sculptures have been proposed. For the version here I use the numbering provided by Florea Bobu Florescu, Das Siegesdenkmal von Adamklissi: Tropaeum Traiani (1965). I have also included the inventory numbering used in the museum.
