fire house, Boston

            the Back Bay Fire & Police Station, located at 941-955 Boylston Street in Boston, Massachusetts;  completed in 1887, the architect was Arthur H. Vinal (1854-1923); the right hand side is still being used as a fire station;  the left hand side, originally a police station, was occupied by the Institue for Contemporary Art from 1976 until it was sold to the Boston Architectural College in 2007;  the heavy masonry arches are reminiscent of the work of H. H. Richardson, another Boston architect and the style is often referred to as Richardsonian romanesque
