Nid yn unig yr oedd y tŷ'n werth ei weld ond hefyd y gerddi wedi eu tirlunio a'r coedydd a'r rhodfeydd o'i amgylch.

’Roedd Thomas Johnes (1748-1816), tirfeddiannwr o swydd Henffordd, wedi ceisio creu ystâd ddelfrydol yng nghanol cefn gwlad mewn man a oedd yn hynod ddiarffordd cyn i'r trên a'r car modur gyrraedd Ceredigion.

Dechreuwyd codi'r plas, mewn arddull Gothig Siorsiadd, yn 1786. Y pensaer oedd Thomas Baldwin o Gaerfaddon. Gwnaed ychwangeiadau mawr gan John Nash yn ddiweddarach.

Dinistriwyd Hafod gan dân yn 1807 a chollwyd casgliad nodedig o lyfrau, o lawysgrifau ac o baentiadau. Ailgodwyd y tŷ rhwng 1807 a 1810.

Aeth y tŷ o ddrwg i waeth yn hanner cyntaf yr 20fed ganrif ac fe'i gadawyd yn wag yn 1942.

Pentwr o gerrig wedi eu chwalu sydd yn nodi safle'r plas heddiw ond mae'r ffynnon hon yn rhoi awgrym o'r gogoniant a fu.

Hafod, the most famous stately home in Ceredigion, was demolished in 1956.

The house itself was a gem and the surrounding gardens and woodland, carefully planted with walkways, were also noteworthy.

Thomas Johnes (1748-1816), a landowner from Herefordshire, aimed to create an ideal estate in the wild countryside, in a notably remote spot, especially before the railway and the motor car reached Ceredigion.,

The building of Hafod, in a Georgian Gothic style, was begun in 1786. Thomas Baldwin of Bath was the architect, and later additions were made by John Nash.

Hafod was destroyed by fire in 1807 and an important collection of manuscripts, books and paintings was lost. The house was rebuilt between 1807 and 1810.

In the first half of the 20th century Hafod deteriorated and was left empty in 1942.

A heap of rubble marks the spot where Hafod once stood, but this fountain gives and idea of the lost glory.
