Polyura eudamippus - the Great Nawab

The Great Nawab is a large butterfly with a wingspan of around 95mm although it can evidently reach as much as 120mm. It is distributed from northern India through Burma, Thailand, central China, to Taiwan. It is also found in peninsular Malaysia. Both sexes are similar in appearance and the distinctive yellow 'Y' mark on the underside of the forewing separates it from the two similar looking Nawabs (Shan and Stately) which are often found in the same locations.
In Thailand it is fairly common and males are often seen puddling on damp ground. It is usually seen in forests at low and medium altitudes, often near streams.
