The line of people is waiting to gain entry to 40th Anniversary Celebration Concert at the Sydney Opera House.

Star-studded gala concert events took place at the Sydney Opera House from the 20th-27th Oct 2013 in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the official opening of the iconic venue on October 20, 1973. Construction began in 1959 with the Opera House being designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon. Utzon was controversially removed as architect and did not finish the job he so famously started. He never returned to Sydney see the building with which his name is forever associated.
The performance concert bill included top Australian artists Sarah Blasko, John Butler and Megan Washington and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra performed the work that opened the Opera House in 1973 - Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark were the guests of honour, along with the family of Danish architect Jorn Utzon, 
The concert, which ended with a fireworks display, was the culmination of a week of events to commemorate the 40th anniversary.

The line to get into the concert extended all the way back to the Circular Quay Ferry Terminal deck and almost all the way along its length.

These images are as viewed from fifth floor of 'The Toaster', the colloquial name given to the Pulman Hotel. When it was built this hotel was widely criticized for its design which resembled a toaster. Interestingly its loudest critic was Allan Jones, controversial 'Shock Jock' who now lives there.
