Herring Gull and Clam - a photo on Flickriver

            Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, East Sussex

Herring Gulls collect clams and other crustaceans off the beach, take them in their beaks, drop them repeatedly from a height until the shell cracks and opens and they can eat the contents. I was very pleased to be able to capture this behaviour in action
