Grass Island Shack rebuild - a photo on Flickriver

Built at the turn of the century as a summer cottage, the place burned down and was rebuilt in the 1930s. When the tide threatened to encroach in the 1950s, the house was moved to higher ground. Finally, in 1963, the owners of the house, the Monroe family, gave the shack and its half-mile of land, called Grass Island, to the town.
After surviving many storms and hurricanes over the decades, it is being rebuilt. In order to earn his Eagle Scout ranking, John Markowski, a Life Scout from Boy Scouts of America Troop 471, lead a renovation project.
