Il Castello del Boccale è un grande maniero che si innalza a Livorno, a sud del quartiere di Antignano, lungo la strada costiera per Quercianella nel tratto di costa chiamato "Boccale" o "Cala dei Pirati".

Il nucleo originario del Castello del Boccale è rappresentato da una torre d'avvistamento costruita per volontà dei Medici nel XVI secolo, probabilmente sui resti di una struttura preesistente realizzata dalla Repubblica di Pisa in epoca medioevale. Vi soggiornava il castellano e qualche soldato, ma le dimensioni erano modeste, tanto che non vi era spazio per l'artiglieria.

Sul finire del XIX secolo la torre divenne proprietà della Marchesa Eleonora Ugolini e fu inglobata in una residenza in stile neomedioevale, con tanto di merlature. Successivamente la dimora passò alla famiglia Whitaker-Ingham che, nei primi anni del Novecento, eliminò le merlature, sostituendole con normali coperture a falda inclinata.

Il castello, recentemente restaurato dopo un lungo periodo di abbandono, è stato frazionato in diversi appartamenti residenziali, mentre nel parco è stata ricostruita una piccola torre utilizzata come magazzino.

The Castle of Boccale is a large manor that rises in Livorno, south of the district of Antignano along the coastal road to Quercianella on the coast called "Mug" or "Cala Pirates."
The original nucleus of the Castle is represented by a watchtower built by the Medici in the sixteenth century, probably on the site of an earlier structure built by the Republic of Pisa in the Middle Ages. I was staying the castle and a few soldiers, but the dimensions were modest, so that there was no room for the artillery.

In the late nineteenth century, the tower became the property of the Marchioness Eleonora Ugolini and was incorporated into a residence in neo-medieval style, complete with battlements. Subsequently, the home passed to the family Whitaker-Ingham who, in the early years of the twentieth century, eliminated the battlements, replacing them with normal pitched roofs.

The castle, recently restored after a long period of neglect, it has been split into several residential apartments, while in the park was rebuilt a small tower used as a warehouse.
