Bizz Bridge Infrared - a photo on Flickriver

            This image captures one of several former rail bridges on the Bizz Johnson Trail in Lassen County California.   The trails now serve to allow foot, bicycle, and equestrian traffic to cross the Susan River as the trail runs from Susanville to Westwood, some 25 miles.  The “Bizz,” as it’s known to us locals, is part of the vast Rails to Trails Network where defunct railroad grades are used as hiking/biking/horse back riding trails across the USA.

For this image, I used my full spectrum modified camera fitted with an 830 nanometer near infrared filter so no visible light was used in the creation of the image.  In the late afternoon sun there was plenty of infrared radiation bouncing off the scene to create a wonderful monochrome image, especially on the deciduous foliage which has quite the glow.   The dramatic clouds in the scene, which fortunately didn’t cover the sun behind me, just added to the mood.
