Wilton windmill - a photo on Flickriver

Wilton windmill

            I felt like shooting something different this weekend. I have never photographed a windmill before but I was aware of this one nestled in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside.

I started off shooting at the obvious entry point near the windmill but I wasn't very happy with that angle. So exploring around a bit more I found another lay-by and I much prefer this composition.

Only problem being, by the time I found it the sun had disappeared behind a huge cloud and I had missed out on some interesting light. So I had a drink in a very nice pub in Wilton and then returned nearer to sunset. There wasn't really a sunset as such but I got some moodiness.

I don't know what it is with shooting landmarks but I do prefer them further in the distance with their surroundings being just as much part of the image as the subject. However this was taken with a 200mm lens as I was some distance away.

I will return now I am more familiar with the location.
