Rapids on Burnt Fork Creek, as it flows downstream from a (long ago) breached dam.

▶The upstream dam [partially obscured in the photo] is a remnant of the former Decatur Waterworks, completed in 1907 to supply drinking water from South Fork Peachtree Creek and Burnt Fork Creek for the city of Decatur, Georgia. During World War II, the facility supplied potable water for a nearby Army hospital and Naval air station (now Peachtree DeKalb Airport) in the city of Chamblee. The waterworks were abandoned in the late 1940s and are now in disrepair and covered with graffiti.

▶ As seen from (i.e., clambered down from!) a spur of the Watershed Trail: one in a "labyrinth of soft-surfaced trails" in and around a 120-acre suburban Piedmont forest located in three Atlanta, Georgia-metropolitan-area DeKalb County parks: Mason Mill Park, Medlock Park, and Ira B. Melton Park.
