Lonely Litttle Shutter Man - a photo on Flickriver

Just for fun, here is another of the little, diligent "shutter people" that I like to photograph. They wait patiently to secure window shutters in an open position when the shutter owners want them to do so. There are lots of them on old houses in Alsace FR.

Also, from a photographic standpoint, I found the multi-colored, multi-textured, multiple layers of paint, plaster and cement visually intriguing.

NB - I think shutter people are cast from "pot metal." These are "sweep up the foundry" alloys of no fixed composition with low melting points. This makes them easy to cast in molds. Usually, they contain a lot of zinc because of its low melting point. Using low-melting scrap-metal alloys also makes producing little metal castings cheap and fast. For more, see:
