Virga rain/snow at sunset - a photo on Flickriver

            Virga clouds are rain or snow falling but not hitting the ground (mostly). These look like there may be some precipitation hitting the ground, but much is not. The sun is just setting behind that mountain.

This is taken with a 500mm lens and a 1.4x TC.
