The Meal

Hummingbirds feed on the nectar inside flowers, on various insects, on sap, and on the homemade nectar someone lucky like Zippy here finds in backyard hummingbird feeders. The birds need to feed often to fuel the energy they expend flying about in search of food, migrating, and generally moving at speeds that most animals cannot come close to matching. It is almost impossible to keep sustained sight of a flying hummingbird. Our eyes and brains are just not fast enough to follow them. Peeks and glimpses here and there are often the best that you can do.
