River Danube, Regensburg, Bavaria - a photo on Flickriver

The Danube is the largest and most important of the four rivers that come together in Regensburg, and the UNESCO World Heritage City lies at its most northern point. It is still fairly “young” in Regensburg; it rises in the Black Forest and flows on past the city for another 1600km through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria to the Black Sea, which gives it the nickname “Black River”. The Danube is the second longest river in Europe, after the Volga.

In Regensburg, it reveals its beauty in many ways. The breathtaking landscape of the Danube Gorge near Kelheim, as well as impressive architecture along the river, such as the Befreiungshalle (Hall of Liberation) and Walhalla are added attractions. The Danube is always worth a visit, whether on a bicycle tour along its picturesque banks, or a cruise on one of river tour ships. Source: tourismus.regensburg.de
