            Marmotte (Marmota marmota), Neuchâtel, Suisse. 
Les marmottes sont de petits mammifères fouisseurs qui appartiennent à la famille des Sciuridae et à l’ordre des Rodentia. Il existe une quinzaine d’espèces du genre Marmota, certaines étant plus présentes en Eurasie, d’autres en Amérique du nord. En Europe, la plus répandue est la marmotte des Alpes (Marmota marmota) que l’on peut observer dans les montagnes, à partir de 800 mètres d’altitude jusqu’à environ 3 000 mètres d’altitude. On la trouve dans les massifs alpins, les Carpates dans le Massif central, dans le Vercors, mais également dans le Jura Suisse et les Pyrénées où elle a été réintroduite.
