Thatchers Cottage, Scotland Street - a photo on Flickriver

            The hamlet of Scotland Street is on a narrow lane which runs for about 1½ km in an east-west direction from Withermarsh Green to Stoke-By-Nayland in south Suffolk. It is evenly bisected by the River Box, about 5km from where it joins the Stour near Higham.

The river valley climbs steeply on both sides. On the eastern side it is a mixture of woodland and open countryside, with the odd scattering of farm buildings. The western side, leading up to Stoke-By-Nayland contains about twenty-five charming period cottages; many of them thatched.

These pictures were taken in the early evening, in the middle of summer.
